Anti Abolitionists - Matthew Gregson

Matthew Gregson was a rich Liverpool businessman who played a big role in the making of Liverpool .

He said that how abolition will ruin the city Liverpool.

He said that:

"Abolition will bring ruin to Liverpool.Complete abolition would mean financial loss of more than
7 million euros. Not only would owners, masters, officers and sailors would be affected, but the whole town would suffer as there would be less dock duty, less employment for boat builders,
etc, and a decrease in the rents of houses, shops and warehouses in consequence of the  unemployment, and likely emigration of seamen , boat builders and men in associated trades.

This proves that the city of  Liverpool was dependent on slavery.
If slavery was abolished Liverpool  could not grow into a large city.
